Bhogapuram airport bus: Vizag Aero Express timings, fares and routes
How to reach Vizag's new Bhogapuram airport by bus: APSRTC Aero Express routes ASR-1 and ASR-2, fares from ₹50 to ₹400, first and last buses, and journey times.
The bus to Visakhapatnam's new airport at Bhogapuram is APSRTC's Vizag Aero Express. Two air-conditioned routes, ASR-1 and ASR-2, run from Old Gajuwaka across the city to Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, about every 30 minutes from roughly 4:30 am to 10:30 pm. The full journey costs ₹400 and takes about two hours on ASR-1.
Passenger flights moved from the old Vizag airport to Bhogapuram on 17 August 2026, and the new airport is about 45 km from the city, so for most travellers the airport run is now longer than it used to be. This guide covers both Bhogapuram airport bus routes, the fare from every stop, first and last buses, and how early to leave for a flight.

ASR-1 or ASR-2: which Aero Express route to take
Both routes start at Old Gajuwaka and end at the airport. They take different paths through the city and join on the highway at Marikavalasa, so from Marikavalasa, Anandapuram, Tagarapuvalasa or Airport Junction you can take whichever bus comes first.
ASR-1 is the inland route along NH-16: Old Gajuwaka, NAD Junction, Kancharapalem, Gurudwara, Maddilapalem, Hanumanthuwaka, Zoo Park, Yendada, Madhurawada and Kommadi. It is the quicker of the two and suits Gajuwaka, NAD, Akkayyapalem, Maddilapalem and the Madhurawada side of the city.
ASR-2 is the coastal route: Old Gajuwaka, Scindia, Visakhapatnam railway station, the RTC Complex (Dwaraka bus station), Siripuram, VMRDA Park, ISKCON Temple, Rushikonda and the IT Hills. It is the one to take from the railway station, the RTC Complex or anywhere along Beach Road, and it takes about half an hour longer end to end.

One figure was reported two ways. APSRTC's launch announcement quoted ₹300 from the Dwaraka bus station, but the stop-by-stop fare tables published at launch put the RTC Complex at ₹350, the same as Siripuram just after it. We show ₹350 so that you carry enough; if the conductor charges ₹300, you are ahead. Marikavalasa was also reported at anywhere from ₹150 to ₹250 by different outlets.
First and last bus to Bhogapuram airport
The Aero Express runs from about 4:30 am to about 10:30 pm, with a bus about every 30 minutes on each route. No full timetable has been published online, so treat any single clock time you see quoted as approximate; the waiting lounges described below display the timings. The first reports at launch gave a shorter day, 4:55 am to 7:45 pm, but reports from after the service began give 4:30 am to 10:30 pm.
APSRTC's regional manager has said the hours could be extended if demand grows, which matters most for early-morning and late-night flights. We will update this page if that happens.
How long the bus takes, and when to leave for your flight
From Old Gajuwaka the journey normally takes close to two hours on ASR-1, and about 2 hours 15 minutes at peak times, mostly because of traffic near the Anandapuram bridge. ASR-2, along the coast, takes about 2½ hours end to end.
From stops further along, allow roughly:
- RTC Complex or the railway station: about 2 hours
- Maddilapalem or Gurudwara: about 1 hour 30 minutes
- Rushikonda or the IT Hills: about 1 hour 25 minutes
- Madhurawada or Kommadi: about 1 hour
- Anandapuram: about 45 minutes
These are estimates from each stop's distance along the route, so add a margin. Most airlines ask domestic passengers to be at the airport about two hours before departure. Boarding at Old Gajuwaka, that means leaving about four and a half hours before your flight; from Madhurawada, about three and a half. With a bus only every half hour, aim for the one before the one you think you need.
From Bhogapuram airport to Vizag city
Arriving passengers take the same two routes in reverse. ASR-1 from the airport goes to Madhurawada, Maddilapalem, Gurudwara, NAD and Gajuwaka; ASR-2 from the airport goes to Rushikonda, Beach Road, the RTC Complex and the railway station. Fares are the same as in the table above, from the airport to your stop.
The last buses leave around 10:30 pm. If your flight lands later than about 10 pm, plan on a cab: GMR, which runs the airport, has round-the-clock cabs about 100 metres from the terminal building.
Waiting lounges for Aero Express passengers
Since September, passengers can wait for the airport bus at two temporary lounges in the city, both on the ASR-2 route: at the Araku Coffee outlet near VMRDA Park and at Sai Priya Resorts in Rushikonda. Both have boards showing Aero Express timings.
What happened to the old Visakhapatnam airport
Scheduled passenger flights at the old airport's civil enclave in the city stopped when the new airport opened: from 12:01 am on 17 August 2026, every flight moved to Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, in Vizianagaram district, off NH-16. The airport code VTZ moved with them, so your ticket still says VTZ but means Bhogapuram. If you used to take a city bus or a short auto ride to the old airport, allow a good deal more time now.
